About the position

For the Upjohn business unit we are looking for a Finance Lead who will be the single point of accountability to ensure the finance operations, integrity,  and compliance of Upjohn Export BV (“UEBV”) and Upjohn Holding Companies (“HoldCo”) located  in the Netherlands. Upjohn Export B.V. (‘UEBV’) is a commercial entity that manages the sale of finished goods to third-party customers (including distributors and agents) in markets where Pfizer does not typically have a local trading presence. UEBV ships to more than 73 markets in the CEER (Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, and Bulgaria), AFME (Africa & Middle East) - and APAC (Asia Pacific) regions, and has inventory in multiple locations including consignment stock locations. UEBV manages across 10 branches in the CEER region

Reporting to the Upjohn Europe Finance Lead, the Finance Lead will be responsible to oversee the technical accounting and accuracy of financial reporting, and accountable for the financials of HoldCo. Main responsibility is to directing, coordinating, maintaining, and controlling the accuracy of the accounting properly, reflecting the financial position of the holding companies.

As our new Finance Lead you will be also responsible for both the financial plan and strategy for the export business, including the liaison and planning with internal and external stakeholders to ensure order of business for UEBV

Furthermore you will ensure HoldCo and UEBV deliver on all of the statutory and financial obligations that pertain to its business, and will be responsible for the development, delivery, and management of a robust financial control and compliance framework to ensure the integrity of HoldCo and UEBV’s business and finance operations. This will include establishing and controlling the financial systems and administrative services of the new HoldCo and UEBV

The Finance Lead will drive a culture of compliance and continuous improvement across export finance operations. The main responsibilities are:

  • Manage the HoldCo and UEBV finance organization, including Controllers, Business Partner, Projects and Accounting resources
  • Serve as a statutory director of Holdco and UEBV and as the single point of accountability for HoldCo and UEBV finance operations
  • Manage preparation and sign off on annual financial reports
  • Sign of on profitability review, and HoldCo and UEBV income tax returns and ensure efficient and pro-active planning and execution of Upjohn’s tax strategy
  • Approve local books and tax workings to be issued by UEBV Branches/Rep Offices
  • Prepare and validate the P&L and Balance Sheet for HoldCo and UEBV in line with Pfizer’s accounting standards, calendar and requirements
  • Manage company policies regarding capital requirements, debt, taxation, equity, disposals and acquisitions, as appropriate
  • Ensure internal and external audit requirements for HoldCo and UEBV are managed and ensure good audit findings for the export business
  • Align with local market Finance Directors to ensure full compliance to Pfizer/Upjohn policies and HoldCo/UEBV policies and responsibilities
  • Contribute fully to the development of company strategy across all areas of the business, challenging assumptions and decision-making as appropriate and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets and business drivers
  • Advise on the financial implications of management decisions and establishing the financial soundness of proposed acquisitions and divestment of assets or businesses
  • Drive a culture of compliance in the Export business, ensure business transactions and interactions are conducted in full compliance with all relevant internal and external compliance obligations

About you

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required
Language skills: Fluent English written and spoken required, spoken Dutch as an advantage

  • As a qualified accountant you have at least 10-15 years post qualification experience, preferably in the international Pharmaceutical industry. Commercial experience from Fast Moving Consumer Goods or other ‘commercial’ business is an advantage
  • Experience with Netherlands GAAP an advantage. US GAAP knowledge essential
  • An understanding of Pfizer accounting principles and accounting systems, preferred
  • Knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office (in particular spreadsheet, word processing and presentation packages) essential
  • Proven demonstration of ability to successfully lead and develop a team to produce optimum results
  • Demonstrated ability to assess the business as a whole and to act in accordance with the best interests of the business. Proven track record of integrity and independence from any one functional group
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and operate at a very senior level in the organization. Must be effective at building a wide seriesof relationships across the business at the Regional (and where necessary, Global) LT level

Other competencies:

  • Communication and presentation skills - verbal and written. Must be able to present complex financial information in a compelling way to a wide variety of audiences
  • Strong planning and time management skills
  • High levels of adaptability and flexibility
